Autographed, youthful 1913 Fischer postcard photograph of the Latvian bass, 1913. Bosse, (1877-1953) initially studied in St. Petersburg, then going to Italy for further training. From 1903-1905 he toured Europe, singing in major houses in Italy, La Scala, La Fenice, San Carlo Felice; as well as the opera houses in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Berlin and Leipzig, making his Russian debut in 1905 in St. Petersburg. He became one of the leading bass-baritones of the Mariinsky Company, retiring in 1941. (He was an artist who stayed after the Revolution.) His repertoire was diverse from Wotan, to Boris Godounov, to Don Basilio, Daland, to the Doctor in “Wozzek.” a rare autograph! |
