|
Extraordinary autographed 6” x 8” original Harrod’s photograph of the legendary Australian concert singer, to conductor Jack Nabarro, Theatre Royal, Dublin, 1932. The photographer has also signed in red crayon. Dawson started his career as a boxer, winning a gold medal in an amateur competition. He then decided to pursue a career and studied in England with Sir Charles Santley. He made his debut touring under a pseudonym with Emma Albani, later making his Covent Garden debut in 1909. However, he realized very quickly that he would make a better living on the concert stage. After a tour in his native Australia, he went back to England and commenced one of the most decorated concert careers in music history. He also was a prolific recorder singing under many names and also would fill in for lesser singers in the D’Oyly Carte G&S recordings. |
