Autographed postcard portrait of the elegant French lyric tenor. David was schooled at both the Nantes and Paris Conservatoire, a pupil of Warot and Achard. His stage debut took place in 1892 at the Opéra-Comique. The following season, he was heard at Monte Carlo. Outside of the Comique in Paris, the tenor chose to sing throughout the French Provinces, Lyon, Nice, Marseilles, Lille, Bordeaux, Nantes and Algiers were his regular houses. However, his recordings loaded with superb coloratura coloring and beautiful portamento phrasing are superb. A rare autograph! |
