SARA CÉSAR - SOPRANO/MEZZO-SOPRANO

Autographed and inscribed 5” x 7” deckled original photograph of the Argentine soprano, 1942.  César (1892-1984) was a most important singer from the early 1910’s through the 1940’s.  However, her early career in Italy singing both the Teatro Costanzi in the late 1910’s and the Communale in Bologna in the 1920’s built her reputation as such that she could afford to sing the balance of her career in South America.

While she begun her career as a mezzo-soprano, she became one of the finest spinto sopranos of her generation, assuming roles like Brünnehilde, Isolde, Kundry, along with Amneris, Ulrica  the Witch in “Hansel und Gretel” and the Principessa in “Suor Angelica” and alternating with ease at the Teatro Colon in her homeland, as well as the theatres of Brazil and Uruguay.

The piece we offer is compromised, it has emulsion missing in one spot, a repaired tear at the base and a small one at the side.  However, we felt due to the relative scarcity of the autograph that we would offer at a price substantially less than we would otherwise offer a César.
