Autographed and inscribed 8” x 10” photograph of the Russian born, American ballerina as the Dying Swan, a la Pavlova. Krasskovska (1919-2005) came from a ballet family. Her Grandmother was her first teacher, a former Bolshoi dancer and her mother danced with Diaghilev’s Ballets Russe. Her Father interestingly was Scottish and her true last name was Leslie. Krasskovska studied with Preobrajenska and Legat. Nijinska hired her for her 1932 Company where she made her stage debut. She next went to Balanchine in his new short lived Company “Les Ballets” and spent 1934 touring South Africa with Serge Lifar. She was one of the first dancers in the Ballets Russe de Monte Carlo Company in 1936 with Mikhail Fokine. By 1938, Leonide Massine took the reigns of the Company and Krassovska stayed with the Company touring and dancing the leads of everything from Odette/Odille to The Firebird. Briefly, Balanchine hired her for Broadway in 1944, where she created dances in the Musical, “Song of Norway.” Krassovska stayed with the Ballets Russe until 1950, when she joined the London Festival Ballet, where she stayed until 1959. She then married a Texan and moved to Dallas, where she was a famed teacher. Krassovska appears on several films, including the 2005 documentary, “Ballets Russe.” An ideal autographed photograph of Krassovska! |
