FREDERIC FRANKLIN

Autographed 8” x 10” photograph of the legendary British dancer in a flamenco costume by Maurice Seymour.  Franklin, still alive, is very much in the ballet business and still choreographs in his 90’s.  At one time, he danced with both Mistinguette and Josephine Baker, but left the cabaret for the Dolin- Markova Company in 1933 and then the Ballets Russe de Monte Carlo in 1938, first as Principal Dancer and in 1944 Ballet Master.  He and his partner Alexandra Danilova became a guest sensation dancing with Sadler Wells and numerous other companies.  In 1952 he founded the Slavenska-Franklin Caompany and toured until 1954 when he returned to the Ballets Russe.  He has advised, directed and choreographed for the National Ballet in Washington, DC, American Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, La Scala and the New York City Ballet to name a few.  Well into his 90’s, he is still active today in ballet circles.
