Autographed vintage, sepia 8” x 10” photograph of the young American soprano as Lakmé. Munsel was the youngest leading singer to be awarded a Metropolitan Opera contract at the time of her debut. The “Bell Song” from Delibes opera was one of her war horse pieces, however, she had to contend with Lily Pons hold on the part with the Met and the public. (With her voice and her obvious looks, she would have been stellar in the part.) Munsel was only given once performance of the opera during the 1946 season. This is an extremely scarce photograph of her and is not included in the photographs on her web-site. |
