MAXIM MICHAILOV - BASS |
|
Autographed 4” x 7” photograph of the Bolshoi bass as Ivan Susanin, his signature role in “A Life for the Tsar.” Michailov was one of three legendary basses at the Bolshoi after the Revolution. However, he was by far the lowest voice, a true basso profundo. (He initially trained in church choirs and was going to be a monk, before he was inspired to sing opera.) Michailov has autographed the recto and verso of the photograph. On the recto, he has signed his name and written the role. On the verso he has signed his name, written People’s Artist of the USSR, Moscow, 1965, 25 April. Michailov’s voice can be heard solo chanting in amazing way in the coronation scene of Eisenstein’s film “Ivan the Terrible.” |
