Autographed and inscribed postcard photograph of the Belgian mezzo-soprano as L’Enfant, in Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges”, 1927. A most unusual image of the coquettish Mertens sticking her tongue out! Certainly we have not seen one like this before anywhere! The mezzo first sung the role at the Monnaie in 1926, where she was highly successful.
Mertens remains an elusive autograph and also made several 78’s which are also elusive and highly prized by collectors. One can be heard on the 2006 Vocal Record Society double disc set. |
