Autographed 8” x 10” photograph of the golden age soprano/mezzo-soprano, 1954. Matzenauer had a truly unique voice and was able to truly transcend both the spinto soprano roles and the lowest mezzo roles. Both Waltraute, Amneris, Azucena, Rosina (Nozze), Isolde and Brunnehilde were regular parts of her diet. She left many amazing records, her Brindisi in “Lucrezia Borgia” is difficult to rival. At the time this picture was taken, the 73 year old soprano was still in demand on the concert platform! |
