Autographed postcard of the Austrian soprano as Kundry.
This photograph is from her performances in “Parsifal” at Bayreuth. The postcard would have been produced after her 1909 marriage to Austrian writer Hermann Bahr. The soprano, a protégé of Rosa Papier, also studied with Cosima Wagner and even more importantly with Gustav Mahler, with whom she had a two year liaison when both were in Hamburg. Mahler later hired her when he was made Director of the Vienna Hofoper and there she was the star dramatic soprano. |
